Wind, I) eig.: ventus. – W. u. Wetter, venti tempestatesque; venti atque imbres (Winde u. Regen); imber ac ventus (Regen u. Wind): in W. u. Wetter, auch sub divo (unter freiem [2710] Himmel, z.B. nutriri). – auf guten, günstigen, frischen W. warten, ventum exspectare: guten (günstigen) W. haben, mit gutem (günstigem) W. segeln, secundos od. prosperos ventos habere (absol. od. zu etw., ad etc., z.B. ad traiciendum); secundo vento cursum tenere: ungünstigen W. haben, adverso vento navigare: adversis ventis uti: guten, günstigen W. bekommen, idoneum ventum nancisci: gegen den W. steuern, in adversum ventum tendere: mit halbem W. segeln, ventum obliquum captare; obliquare sinus velorum in ventum: der W. geht, weht, ventus flat: der W. wird stärker, wird frisch, ventus increbrescit: der W. legt sich. ventus cadit: der W. geht nicht mehr. hat sich gelegt, ventus cecĭdit od. consedit od. recessit: der W. geht, bläst in den Rücken, ich habe den W., im Rücken, tergum afflat ventus: durch widrige Winde aufgehalten werden, contrariis ventis retineri. – Sprichw., etwas in den W. schlagen, alqd neglegere (nicht beachten); alqd contemnere (geringschätzend verschmähen ): in den Wind reden, verba dare ventis od. in ventos: die Warnungen werden in den W. gesprochen sein, abibunt in vanum monentium verba. – II) uneig.: a) fortgehende Blähung: ventus. flatus (im allg.). – crepitus ventris (hörbarer). – einen W. streichen lassen, flatum ventris emittere: einen hörbaren, crepitum ventris reddere. – b) leere Worte ohne Wahrheit: verba vana od. inania. – das ist W., verba istaec sunt.
